Touchdown!
By: Coach Eric Saxton
The 2007 M.A.C. NFL Flag football camp was a success. The campers gelled together like professionals. We had beautiful weather every Sunday. First, I want to talk a little about our first session, ages 4-7. These campers were in sinc from the start. Matthew Amik was the leader of this group by having previous flag football experience. He helped lead us in our excercises and warm ups, and the other campers were excited to get the football rolling.

Here's a short version of the Falcons story...
By Rich Ledbetter
"The first grade hoopsters from Forsyth School are off to a running start
this season. The ten young men attended pre-season camp at the MAC West with
Coach Eric Saxton. Over several Saturdays, the boys gathered for work on basic
basketball knowledge and skills. Coach Eric delivered valuable teaching about
basketball positions, teamwork, and passing/dribbling/shooting. More than
anything, Coach Eric held their seven-year old attention and taught them
valuable character lessons. They also started sleeping with their basketballs
at home!
The season began in January, and thus far the Falcons are undefeated in five
contests. More than the final score, the boys are playing team basketball, and
demonstrating the learning from Coach Eric's practices. MAC West members
Cade and Brendan Cunnane and RJ Ledbetter are standouts on the Falcon
squad."

We learned plenty of techniques, fundamentals, and football drills to get us ready for some football. One of the finest moments was seeing them score a touchdown, and watching them do their touchdown dance. You had to see it!
The second session was ages 8 and up. It was a character building experience. They competed in a scrimmage with kids older, and bigger who had more experience than them. But they fought very hard all the way to the end. What a great bunch of coachable kids!
What time is it? Game time! You had to be there. Our campers were so fired up to go on the feild before the River City Rage indoor professional football game, not a lick of nervousness. The ran pass plays that looked like the Indianapolis Colts. Well, not quite, maybe a little more practice. But, some of the catches were spectacular. The icing on the cake was seeing them wave to the screaming fans like they had been there before.
We would all like to thank the River City Rage, for allowing us to feel like the Pros. Most of all, thanks to the parents for their cooperation, all season long. Last, but not least, thanks to the M.A.C. for its role in this, and all it does for our youth.

Those mentioned above, were members of the inaugural JCC S.P.E.E.D (Sports, Performance, Elevated, Enhanced, and Developed) Program. Here I sit with all this useful information - days of film, countless hours of analyzing talent, and an enormous amount of real-life experiences. “It humbles you when you get the opportunity for superstars to tell you ‘I was nervous’ or ‘You are great for sharing your knowledge with youths’.
"One day sports will be more efficient with guys like you out there.” –Miami Dolphins, Hall of Fame Quarterback, Dan Marino.
When I spoke with other coaches at all levels of the game, the one aspect that kept surfacing is their desire to spend more time on coaching and strategizing, rather than breaking bad habits and teaching fundamentals. My goal is not only to give kids an edge in their particular sport, but also to get them physically, mentally, and fundamentally ready for the next level. The boys above gave their all, and their improvement was unprecedented. They became tougher mentally, improved their footwork, agility, hand-eye coordination, catching and throwing, dribbling, speed, passing, and most of all understanding that a team is a unit. I credit these guys for working towards being and integral part of their distinguished unit. I would like to take this time to thank each and every participant and their parents for taking a chance on the program that we now know today as S.P.E.E.D.
We all agree academics are one of the most important attributes we want to instill in our youths. Let’s take a look at a scenario…Joe and John have the same GPA. Joe and John’s families have similar incomes. Joe and John both play the same sport. The only difference – Joe has established a sports resume by participating in various prestigious sports programs. Joe has proven he is coachable, has great fundamentals, and impressive techniques. Joe’s sports resume has given the coach and the school a reason to offer a scholarship. The bottom line is give your child the best chance!
